Kolkata: After BJP's historic victory in Bengal, now the real game has started. The results are out, there is celebration but the biggest question is still unresolved: who will take charge of this state? This is the discussion in the corridors from Delhi to Kolkata.
The most interesting thing is that this time there is a strong discussion within the party about making a female face the CM. The idea is that after the departure of Mamata Banerjee, a big political and social message should be given to the people of Bengal by giving them another woman leadership. However, no name has been officially approved yet.
Shubhendu Adhikari is considered to be at the forefront of this race. It was no small thing to defeat Mamata Banerjee in her own stronghold in the elections. This victory gives him a different stature in BJP. Apart from this, the name of Dilip Ghosh is also there who is an old and grassroots leader of the party. Among the female faces, Agnimitra Paul and Rupa Ganguly are in discussion – both have their own support base and both have a clean image.
BJP state president Sameek Bhattacharya has made it clear that the swearing in of the new government will take place on May 9. It is being told that this ceremony will be held at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Ministers of many BJP ruled states can also attend.
According to sources, the party is also considering the formula of two Deputy Chief Ministers to maintain regional and social balance in Bengal. There is talk of giving responsibility to different faces from North Bengal and South Bengal so that the entire state can be managed.
Now all eyes are on the meeting of the BJP legislature party and the decision of the central leadership. May 9 is around the corner and Bengal's next chapter is just hours away from being written.
