Auto News: Midsize SUV segment has become one of the most popular segments in the Indian automobile market. The August 2025 sales figures are evidence that strict competition is going on in this segment. While a great increase in sales of some models was recorded, the sale of many vehicles declined. The special thing is that this month, Hyundai Creta once again maintained its reign and overtook all the rivals in the sale.

Hyundai Creta's dominance continues

In August 2025, the Hyundai Creta won the number one position in the midsize SUV segment.

  • Total Sales: 15,924 units
  • Fall compared to August 2024: 5% (16,762 units)

Although a slight decline has been seen compared to last year, despite this, Creta has been the best-selling SUV in this segment for many consecutive years.

Mahindra Scorpio's major decline in sales

The second place was Mahindra Scorpio, but its sales declined.

  • August 2025: 9,840 units
  • August 2024: 13,787 units

Despite the decline, Scorpio managed to maintain its popularity among customers.

Great growth of Toyota Hyryder

This month the largest surprise was given by Toyota Hyryder.

  • August 2025: 9,100 units
  • August 2024: 6,534 units
  • Increase: 39%

The increasing demand for hybrid variants brought its sales to new heights. The increasing popularity of hybrid technology against petrol and diesel gave the high-rider a big lead.

Grand Vitara and XUV700 selling drastically

Maruti Grand Vitara

  • August 2025: 5,743 units
  • August 2024: 9,021 units

Mahindra xuv700

  • August 2024: 9,007 units
  • Fall: 45%

Both SUVs have suffered a big decline in sales as compared to last year, pushing their positions down in the chart.

  • Fall: 28%

Tata Harrier

Tata Harrier showed excellent growth this month, while Tata CurvV sales fell by 51% to just 1,703 units.

Honda Elevate and Tata Safari's status weak

The bottom of the ranking was Honda Elevate and Tata Safari.

Honda Elevate

  • August 2025: 1,660 units
  • Fall: 4%

Tata safari

  • August 2025: 1,489 units
  • Fall: 24%

Increasing demand for hybrid vehicles

It is clear from the August 2025 data that Indian customers are now giving preference to more feature-rich and hybrid SUVs. Hyundai Creta once again proved its dominance by gaining the top position. Toyota Hyryder's tremendous growth is a sign that the hybrid segment will be stronger in the coming times. At the same time, falling sales of popular SUVs like Scorpio, Grand Vitara and XUV700 show that now customers' choices and priorities are changing rapidly. It is clear that this match is going to be more interesting in the coming months.
