New Delhi: Hyundai is preparing to further strengthen its lineup amid increasing competition in the Indian SUV market. The company is working on a new SUV that will be positioned between the existing Venue and Creta. There is talk of this crossover SUV, sold in the international market under the name Bayon, being introduced in a new form according to India. Its aim is to attract customers who want a more premium option than the Venue but a more affordable option than the Creta.
The gap between the compact and mid-size SUV segments has widened rapidly in the Indian market over the past few years. Many companies have come up with new models to fill this gap. In such a situation, Hyundai also wants to fill this void by changing its product strategy. The company believes that the number of such buyers is continuously increasing, who want a vehicle that is better than Venue in style, features and space but priced lower than Creta.
According to reports, Hyundai's new design language will be seen in the new SUV. It can be provided with wide front grille, split LED headlights, new design daytime running lamps, strong bonnet, roof rails and large alloy wheels. Compared to the current Bayon, the design of the Indian model may be kept more SUV-like so that it looks as per the choice of Indian customers.
The company will lay special emphasis on making the cabin of the new SUV modern and premium. It is likely to have features like large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging and connected car technology. In terms of safety, features like six airbags, electronic stability control, 360 degree camera and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) can also be included.
Although the company has not officially shared the engine information, it is believed that it can be given options of 1.2 liter naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0 liter turbo petrol and 1.5 liter petrol engine used in Venue and Creta. There is also a possibility of getting the option of manual, iMT and automatic gearbox for transmission. This will provide options to customers according to different needs.
If this SUV is launched in the Indian market, it will compete with Maruti Frontx, Toyota Taisor, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO and upcoming new compact SUV models. Hyundai will try to strengthen its hold in this segment on the basis of balance of price and features.
According to various reports related to the auto industry, Hyundai may launch this new SUV in the Indian market by late 2026 or early 2027. However, the company has not yet confirmed its launch timeline or official name. At present it is clear that Hyundai is working rapidly on the strategy to expand its SUV range in India and there is every possibility of customers getting a new option in the coming times.
