Automobile News: The Carens Clavis EV, the nation's first all-electric MPV (multipurpose vehicle), was unveiled by Kia India on Tuesday. The introduction is interesting because it broadens the application of EV technology beyond SUVs and hatchbacks. Based on two battery configurations, the Carens Clavis EV comes in four different versions. It costs Rs 17.99 lakh for the HTK Plus 42 kWh, Rs 20.49 lakh for the HTX 42 kWh, Rs 22.49 lakh for the higher-capacity HTX 51.4 kWh, and Rs 24.49 lakh for the HTX Plus 51.4 kWh. The car stands out from other electric options on the market since it can accommodate larger families with seven seats.

How is the Carens Clavis EV different from the EV6 and EV9?

The Carens Clavis EV is Kia's first electric car made in India, in contrast to the imported EV6 and EV9 versions. The 51.4 kWh model's amazing range is 490 km, while the 42 kWh model's is 404 km, according to the manufacturer. One important characteristic is its fast-charging ability; with a 100 kW DC charger, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 39 minutes.

The Carens Clavis EV leverages Kia's worldwide EV experience, according to Gwanggu Lee, managing director and CEO of Kia India. “Built on the pillars of proven global technology, advanced features, and a ‘recreational vehicle’ philosophy, this EV reflects India’s ambition and togetherness,” he stated.

IP67-rated battery pack

The IP67-rated battery pack of the Carens Clavis EV provides water and dust resistance. It has been tested for durability in monsoon conditions using a 420-mm water soak. A key aspect is the i-Pedal driving mode, which maximises regenerative braking to enable single-pedal driving. When the accelerator is withdrawn, the car slows down and stops completely.

Level 2 ADAS

Priorities also include convenience and safety. With lane-keeping, emergency braking, and blind-spot alerts, the MPV has Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). Six airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assistance, downhill brake control, and a rear occupant warning system are among the extra safety features.

0 to 100 km/h in just 8.4 seconds

Two motor options—the 99 kW and 126 kW—that can each produce 255 Nm of torque power the MPV. This results in rapid acceleration; even when fully loaded, the car can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds.
