New Delhi: Highway travel is set to become more expensive. You will now have to spend more money for the FASTag Annual Pass. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has revised the fee for the FASTag Annual Pass for the financial year 2026-27. This change will come into effect on April 1.

When will the new rate come into effect?

Currently, customers are required to pay ₹3,000 for the annual pass. Starting April 1, customers driving private cars, jeeps, and vans will have to spend ₹3,075 for the annual pass. Despite this marginal increase in the subscription price, there will be no changes to the key operational benefits or validity parameters of the digital pass for the new financial year.

How many toll crossings on National Highway and Expressway Networks?

Despite the new price of ₹3,075, the FASTag Annual Pass continues to save a significant amount of money for regular travelers. This pass offers private vehicle owners the convenience of prepaid access at 200 toll crossings across the extensive national highway and expressway network. The pass expires either when the customer completes 200 toll crossings or when one year has elapsed since the digital activation of the pass. Data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) indicates that this annual pass is gaining significant popularity among motorists. Currently, more than 500,000 customers across the country are utilizing the FASTag Annual Pass for their toll payments.

Has Price Increased in Accordance with Regulatory Protocols?

The decision to increase the price of the annual pass aligns with regulatory protocols. Highway toll fees are revised at the beginning of every financial year. These systematic adjustments are legally mandated under the National Highways Fee Act and are directly linked to the National Wholesale Price Index. The 2.5% price hike reflects the wholesale inflation rate recorded during the previous financial year. Approximately 11.86 Crore FASTags Issued
To make journeys more convenient for customers who travel frequently on highways, the FASTag Annual Pass was introduced on Independence Day in 2025.

The Annual Pass is designed specifically for vehicles registered for non-commercial use. Any car, jeep, or van equipped with a valid FASTag can avail of this benefit. Since its inception in India in 2016, FASTag has emerged as the primary toll payment system. According to government data, approximately 11.86 crore FASTags have been issued to date. Of these, about 5.9 crore FASTags remain active and are utilized for electronic toll payments across the country.
