New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki's Financial Year 2026 report revealed a significant shift this time around. Specifically, sales of its most popular hatchback, the WagonR, witnessed a substantial decline. It slipped from the top spot in the company's portfolio down to the fourth position. Furthermore, within the hatchback segment itself, it dropped to the second position.
For the company, it was the Swift that took the lead in the hatchback segment during FY26. It is worth noting that, in addition to the Swift, the company's portfolio includes the WagonR, Baleno, Alto, Ignis, S-Presso, and Celerio. The Swift and Baleno were the only two hatchbacks in the company's lineup to record a year-over-year growth of 3%. Let's now take a closer look at their sales figures.
Turning to Maruti's hatchback segment sales for Financial Year 2026, the Swift sold a total of 185,350 units in FY2026. In comparison, it had sold 179,641 units in FY2025—marking a growth of 3%. The WagonR sold a total of 180,134 units in FY2026, whereas it had sold 198,451 units in FY2025—reflecting a decline of 9%. The Baleno sold a total of 172,560 units in FY2026, compared to 167,161 units sold in FY2025—registering a growth of 3%.
The Alto sold a total of 93,740 units in FY2026, down from 102,232 units sold in FY2025—indicating a decline of 8%. The Ignis sold a total of 22,924 units in FY2026. In contrast, 27,438 units were sold in FY2025—marking a 16% decline in growth. A total of 18,551 units of the S-Presso were sold in FY2026, compared to 23,538 units in FY2025—representing a 21% decline. The Celerio saw total sales of 18,005 units in FY2026, down from 33,025 units in FY2025—marking a 45% decline.
The vehicle features an all-new Z-series engine, which significantly improves fuel efficiency compared to the previous Swift model. The brand-new 1.2L Z12E 3-cylinder naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine is capable of generating 80 bhp of power and 112 Nm of torque. It also incorporates a mild-hybrid setup. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox. Regarding fuel efficiency, the company claims a mileage of 24.80 kmpl for the manual FE variant, 25.75 kmpl for the automatic FE variant, and 32.85 km/kg for the CNG variant.
The car boasts an entirely new interior design, featuring a highly impressive cabin. It comes equipped with rear AC vents, a wireless charger, and dual charging ports. A rear-view camera is included to assist the driver in parking the vehicle with ease. The dashboard features a newly designed layout and houses a 9-inch free-standing infotainment screen. This screen supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay via wireless connectivity.
The center console has also been redesigned to feature an auto climate control panel similar to those found in the Baleno and Grand Vitara models. Speaking of the New Swift's safety features, it comes equipped with Hill Hold Control, ESP, a new suspension system, and six airbags across all variants. It boasts impressive safety features such as Cruise Control, 3-point seatbelts for all seats, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and Brake Assist (BA). Additionally, it features new LED fog lamps. Notably, the starting ex-showroom price of the Swift is ₹5,78,900.
