Tesla Roadster Bookings Open In India, Reservation Amount Set At Rs 50.06 Lakh

New Delhi: Tesla's new electric sports car Roadster is once again in the news. The company has introduced the new prototype of this car in Texas, America and reservations for it have started in India also. Its most special feature is its ability to jump in the air and perform stunts, the performance of which has caught the attention of the automobile world. However, it would not be correct to call it a completely flying car. Rocket-like thruster technology has been used in its special version. The company aims to start its production in 2028. At present, only the deposit amount for booking in India has been revealed; the final price and delivery date have not been confirmed. 

For how much will Tesla's new Roadster be booked?

To reserve the performance version of the Roadster in India, a total deposit of Rs 50.06 lakh will have to be made. In this, initially Rs 5.01 lakh has to be paid, while the remaining Rs 45.05 lakh will have to be paid within the next 10 days. The total reservation amount for the Thrust package is said to be around Rs 2.50 crore. In this, after the initial payment, the remaining amount will have to be deposited within the stipulated time. It is important to be clear that these are the reservation amounts and not the final ex-showroom price of the car. The company has not yet announced the definite schedule of launch and delivery in India. 

Will this electric car really be able to fly in the air?

The main reason for the discussion of Roadster is its Rocket version. Tesla showed the car jumping in the air and doing tricks in the air during the demonstration. In this technology, cold gas thrusters developed by SpaceX are said to be used. However, this does not mean that the car will be able to fly like a plane under normal conditions. This special technique has been shown to rise into the air for a limited time and perform special tricks. The Rocket Edition is not available to the general public for regular bookings and is reported to be offered on an invitation basis.

What will be the difference between Performance, Thrust and Rocket?

Tesla Roadster is planned to be offered in three configurations. The performance version is designed keeping in mind general road use. The Thrust package will feature additional thruster technology, while the Rocket version is claimed to include a complete system for more advanced flight-like activities. At the company's demonstration, the rocket version demonstrated exceptionally fast acceleration and aerial acrobatics. However, these figures should be seen only as claims of the company. The final form and actual performance of all these features may differ in production models. 
 
What will be special in design and features?

The design of the new roadster has been kept different from traditional sports cars. Its exterior emphasises a low-height body, sporty shape and improved aerodynamics. Digital screens and modern driving controls are expected to be available in the cabin. An active aerodynamic system to keep the car stable at high speed is also included in its features. The company has introduced it as a flagship model to showcase the technical performance and capabilities of electric cars. 

When will the car be available in India and what will be the challenges?

Tesla aims to start production of the Roadster in 2028. But it is not decided yet when its delivery will start in India. In particular, questions related to road legality, safety standards and local approvals of the Rocket version will be important. Therefore, mere opening of reservations should not be considered as the launch or immediate availability of the car in India. At present, the most important thing for interested customers is to read the booking conditions, payment and refund policy carefully and wait for the final price and delivery announcement from the company.
