New Delhi: Election Commission has confirmed the dates for elections for 9 seats of Legislative Council and a by-election for one seat in Bihar. Voting will take place on June 18. These 9 seats are becoming vacant on June 28, 2026, because the term of these members is ending. As soon as the announcement was made, the politics of Bihar became heated. Everyone is considering this as the semi-final before the assembly elections.
Nitish Kumar had left the Legislative Council seat after becoming a member of the Assembly. Now there will be a by-election for the same. This seat is a tough question for JDU. If someone else takes Nitish ji's old seat, he will get defamed. Therefore the party does not want to take any risk. The opposition is also eyeing this seat.
The direct contest is between NDA vs Grand Alliance. Both the camps are engaged in manipulation. The tussle for tickets inside begins. Sons and relatives of big leaders are also in the line. Some are adjusting their caste equation while some are looking for a rich candidate. The parties are considering this as an opportunity to show strength. Whoever wins will make waves before the assembly elections.
The Election Commission has released the schedule. Enrollment will start soon. Then the papers will be scrutinized. A date has also been fixed for those who wish to withdraw their names. Voting will take place on June 18 and the results will be declared by the evening of the same day. Meaning, it will be decided in 24 hours who won and who lost. Now the parties do not have much time. Candidates will have to be finalized in 2-3 days.
Even though this is an election for only 9 seats, the signal will go very big. Only the MLAs will cast their votes, but the general public is also watching to see who has the upper hand. If NDA wins more seats then the confidence of Nitish-BJP will increase. If the grand alliance wins, Tejashwi will say that the wind is changing. Small parties will also increase the price by vacating one or two seats. Overall, this is a trailer before the assembly elections.
