Patna: A meeting of the Janata Dal (United) National Council was held at the Karpoori Hall of the party's state headquarters in Patna. During the meeting, Nitish Kumar was confirmed as the National President for the fourth time. Additionally, he was granted significant authority within the organization, including the power to make necessary amendments to the party's constitution.

What did Nitish Kumar say?

In his address, Nitish Kumar highly praised the performance of the state's NDA government under the leadership of Samrat Choudhary. Party workers accorded a grand welcome to Nitish Kumar upon his arrival at the meeting. JD(U) leaders congratulated him on becoming the National President, and Nishant Kumar sought his blessings by touching his feet.

Following the meeting, JD(U) National Spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Singh stated in a press conference that the government led by Samrat Choudhary is effectively implementing the 'Saat Nishchay Part-3' (Seven Resolves Part-3) schemes introduced by Nitish Kumar. The Chief Minister is very pleased with this progress and congratulated the NDA government for it. He noted that substantial support is being received from the Central Government for development work in Bihar.

Discussion on Four Resolutions?

Rajiv Ranjan Singh stated that four resolutions were deliberated upon and passed during the National Council meeting. He remarked that the seamless transfer of power in Bihar is a unique event in the country's political history. Although the government has operated under Nitish Kumar's leadership in the state for 20 years, there has been no visible anti-incumbency sentiment. Satisfaction was expressed regarding the de-escalation of the conflict between Iran and the United States. All leaders also expressed happiness over the party's membership base exceeding ten million (one crore).

Nitish Kumar has previously held the position of National President three times. However, all party leaders acknowledge that Nitish Kumar is the true driving force behind the JD(U)—a sentiment Lalan Singh has voiced on several occasions. He is the universally accepted leader of the party. This marks the fourth time Nitish Kumar has assumed the responsibility of JD(U) National President.

He was first appointed to the post in 2016, taking over from Sharad Yadav, and was appointed for a second term in 2019. He was appointed National President for the third time in December 2023 following Lalan Singh's resignation. He was elected unopposed as National President for the fourth time on March 24, 2026—a decision that was ratified today at the National Council meeting.
