Fire Breaks Out In Sasaram-Patna Fast Passenger Coach, Bogie Detached From Train

Bihar: A major accident took place early Monday morning at Sasaram Junction in Bihar. Fire broke out due to short circuit in Patna bound Sasaram-Patna fast passenger train number 53212. There was chaos at the station within no time.

When and how did the fire start?

The accident happened around quarter to six in the morning. The train was standing on platform number six. Like everyday, it was to leave for Patna at 6:45. The passengers were sitting. Then smoke was seen rising from a bogie. Some people who were out for a morning walk made noise. Within no time the fire broke out.

How much damage was caused?

The fire completely engulfed the fifth bogie. The entire bogie was burnt to ashes. The rear part of the fourth bogie also burst into flames. It was fortunate that the accident happened before the departure of the train. There were not many people in the coaches at that time, otherwise huge damage could have been caused.

How was the fire controlled?

As soon as they heard the noise, the workers working at the rack point started running. They first tried to extinguish the fire themselves. As soon as the news was received, the fire brigade vehicle also arrived. The fire was brought under control after a lot of effort with the help of local people and labourers. But by then the fifth bogie was completely destroyed.

What happened to the passengers?

As soon as the fire broke out, a stampede-like atmosphere was created at the station. Hundreds of passengers going to Patna and Ara by this train got disturbed. Many people ran out of the station to catch the bus. Some others started waiting for the train.

What did the railways do?

The remaining bogies were quickly cut and separated to prevent the fire from spreading. At present the train has been stopped at Sasaram only. Seeing the problems of the passengers, Railways started the Sasaram-Ara passenger standing on platform seven on time. So that people can reach their work. Senior officers of DDU Railway Division have also left for Sasaram.

Investigation is being done as to what caused the short circuit. People present at the station say that if the fire had started in a moving train, the situation could have been much worse. At present there is no news of any casualty.
