Bihar: A goods train met with an accident late at night on the Kiyul-Jasidih railway section in the Jamui district of Bihar. Suddenly several coaches left the tracks and scattered here and there near Telwa Bazar Halt. Three coaches fell straight into the nearby river, while about ten overturned and went out of the line. The train was loaded with cement, so the loss was only to the goods. Fortunately no casualties have been confirmed.
After the accident, both the lines on this route were stopped. This stretch is part of the Howrah-Delhi main route, so many trains were immediately affected. Some trains remained stuck at various places, and some had to be diverted to other routes. Information is being given to the passengers at the stations, and the situation is being explained through announcements.
Railway officers and the technical team reached the spot at midnight. Cranes and other machines have been deployed to remove coaches and repair the track. There are difficulties in removing the containers that have fallen into the river, because the flow of water and the slope of the soil are making the work difficult. Nevertheless, the Railways has intensified efforts so that the line can be reopened as soon as possible.
Local people say that after the accident, there was an atmosphere of chaos in the area for some time, but the police and railway protection force arrived and cleared the crowd and cleared the way. The initial reasons are not clear, but it is believed that either there was weakness in the track or some technical fault occurred. The clear reason will emerge only after investigation.
A large number of trains pass on this route every day, so the impact of the blockage will not be limited to Jamui only. This line is considered to be the lifeline of many trains going from East to North India, along with connecting Bihar and Jharkhand. At present, the aim of the railways is to first make the track safe; only then will the operations start.
