Patna: After months of speculation, now Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's son, Nishant Kumar is all set to be Janata Dal (United)'s nominee from the Rajya Sabha, according to sources. According to the media reports, the party has retained Ramnath Thakur.
According to The Hindustan Times, Nitish Kumar's party, Janata Dal (United), has retained Ramnath Thakur as a Rajya Sabha member.
The development comes after JD(U) state minister Sharwan Kumar on Tuesday said that the entry of Nishant into politics has been finalized.
The senior JD(U) leader said Nishant will be given a "bigger responsibility" in the party.
"Now, it's clear, and it has been finalised that Nishant Kumar will join active politics. The party will make a formal announcement in a day or two. Party workers have been demanding Nishant's entry into politics for several years. Now party workers and supporters are upbeat with the decision ahead of Holi," Sharwan told news agency PTI.
Sharing about the details of announcement, Sharwan said that Nishant will be given a "bigger responsibility" in the party and further added that the decision on the same will be taken in a day or two.
While sharing this news, Sharwan also gave hints about Nishant's entry into the Rajya Sabha.
While answering the question regarding Nishant's entry to the Parliament's Upper House, Sharwan replied, "Anything can happen."
Nishant Kumar, who is the son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has largely stayed away from the public eye and active politics. He is an engineering graduate from the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra.
