NEET Paper Leak Protest: Tej Pratap Yadav Sent To 14-Day Judicial Custody In Patna

New Delhi: Jan Shakti Janata Dal (JSJD) chief Tej Pratap Yadav has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days after the Bihar bandh organised in support of students over the alleged NEET paper leak case. On Saturday evening, Patna Police detained him from a mall near Dak Bungalow intersection. After this he was taken to Digha police station and produced before the Judicial Magistrate late in the night, from where the court ordered him to be sent to judicial custody for 14 days. After this Tej Pratap Yadav was sent to Beur Central Jail.

What happened during Bihar Bandh?

During Bihar Bandh, clashes were seen between protesters and police at many places in the capital Patna. Various opposition parties and social organizations had announced Bihar Bandh in protest against the NEET paper leak and police action against students in Delhi. Police vehicles were vandalised at some places during the protest. Seeing the situation worsening, additional deployment of security forces had to be done. The protesters also kept raising slogans against the central government in support of the demands of the students.

What did Tej Pratap Yadav say in support of students?

Tej Pratap Yadav was seen standing with the students after reaching the protest site. He reached Ram Ghulam Chowk and expressed support towards the agitating students. During this time the police took him into custody. Later an FIR was also registered against him at Gandhi Maidan police station.

Talking to the media, Tej Pratap said that the demands of the students are completely legitimate and the government should listen to them seriously. He said that he stands strongly with the students and youth and is ready to go to every level in the fight for their rights.

Now what will be the further legal process?

Tej Pratap Yadav's lawyer Jagannath Singh said that a bail petition will be filed in the court on Monday for his release. He will be kept in judicial custody till the court's decision.

What questions did the party raise on the arrest?

Leaders of Jan Shakti Janata Dal have raised questions on the police action regarding the arrest. Party leaders say that no clear reason was given for the arrest. She argues that if any public representative participates in the peaceful demonstration of students then it should not be considered a crime.

The party also said that the government should adopt the path of dialogue on the students' issue, so that the dispute can be resolved.
