Patna: The troubles of Faisal Khan, alias Khan Sir, director of Khan Global Studies, don't seem to be abating. Amidst the police action in the firing case at the coaching institute, now the threat of administrative action on his coaching institute and hospital is also looming.
After several serious deficiencies were found in the inspection of fire safety standards, preparations have begun to take the next step. On Sunday, the fire department team conducted a fire safety audit of Khan Global Studies and the hospital complex associated with it.
During the inspection, several security flaws were found. Officials have directed the institute management to address all deficiencies within seven to ten days.
If there is no improvement within the stipulated time limit, strict action under the rules, even sealing process, can be initiated.
The investigation found that the coaching institute did not have a sufficiently functional fire alarm system, and that a fixed fire fighting system was also missing.
According to the standards of the fire department, where there should be an overhead water tank of 25 thousand litre capacity, only a tank of 5 thousand litre capacity was found present.
Not only this, the fire pump of 900 litres per minute capacity required to extinguish the fire in an emergency was also not available.
Adequate number of fire extinguishers were also not found in the building, which has raised serious questions about the security arrangements in case of any major accident.
District Fire Officer Ritesh Pandey said that this was the institute's second fire safety audit. Several suggestions were made after the first inspection, but the desired improvements were not implemented.
For this reason, a week's notice has been issued as a final warning. He added that if safety standards are not followed within the stipulated time, further action will be taken under fire regulations.
The fire department is not limited to Khan Global Studies. Other major commercial and educational buildings in the capital are also being inspected.
Wherever deficiencies in safety standards are found, notices are being issued and instructions for improvement are being issued. Officials say that compromising on safety standards in public buildings will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
