Business News: In today's digital age, the Aadhaar card has become the most important document of our identity. Banking, government schemes, pensions, passports, school admissions—it is required everywhere. But if your Aadhaar card is lost or stolen, and you do not even remember the Aadhaar number, then there is no need to panic.

UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has provided some very simple ways to deal with this situation so that you can get your Aadhaar number again.

Is Aadhaar card recovery possible without the Aadhaar number?

Yes, it is possible, but only if your mobile number is linked to your Aadhaar. The linked mobile number is essential for receiving OTP verification and retrieving your information.

Complete process of getting Aadhaar card without Aadhaar number

Get help from UIDAI's helpline

If you do not have internet access, then you can get help by calling UIDAI's toll-free helpline, 1947.

Step-by-step process:

  • Step 1: Call 1947.
  • Step 2: Follow the IVRS instructions and speak to a customer care representative.
  • Step 3: They will ask you for details like name, date of birth, and address.
  • Step 4: Upon providing the correct details, you will be given an EID (Enrollment ID).
  • Step 5: With the help of this EID number, you can find out your Aadhaar number by visiting the website or through a call.

Find Aadhaar number from UIDAI website

If you have internet available, you can know your Aadhaar number online by following the steps given below:

Steps to get Aadhaar number from website:

  • Step 1: Go to the official UIDAI website at https://uidai.gov.in
  • Step 2: Select the option labeled "Retrieve Lost or Forgotten EID/UID."
  • Step 3: Enter name, mobile number/email, and captcha.
  • Step 4: Once the OTP is verified, your Aadhaar number will be sent to your registered mobile number via SMS.

Important things to keep in mind

  • Your mobile number must be linked to Aadhaar; only then will OTP be received.
  • If the information is given incorrectly, the Aadhaar number will not be given by UIDAI.
  • If your mobile number is not linked, you will need to visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra in person.

Your Aadhaar is your identity—handle it with care and keep it safe

To avoid such a situation in the future, write down the Aadhaar number in a safe place or use UIDAI's mAadhaar app.
