Gold Price Prediction: 4 Big Reasons Why Gold Could Hit a New Record by 2028 (X)
New Delhi: Amid falling gold prices, a rise is once again expected. Due to continuous buying by central banks, global economic uncertainty and geopolitical tensions, demand for gold may remain strong in the coming times. According to the report, some fund managers believe that gold can set a new record in the next 12 to 24 months. However, prices may remain under pressure due to US interest rates and strengthening dollar.
Market volatility continues regarding gold prices, but long-term projections still remain positive. Four main reasons are being given behind this.
First, central banks around the world are increasing the share of gold in their foreign exchange reserves. Second, geopolitical tensions globally are attracting investors towards safer investment options. Third, increasing government debt in many countries including America is increasing economic concerns. Fourth, gold is also being purchased as a strategy to reduce dependence on the dollar and diversify its reserves.
According to preliminary data from the World Gold Council, central banks bought about 63 tonnes of gold in September 2026. This is said to be the biggest purchase in a month after November 2024. This demand from central banks is supporting the long-term prospects of gold.
Central banks consider gold an important part of their reserves. Gold can become an option for diversifying reserves during times of economic uncertainty and international financial risks. However, despite continued buying by central banks, it is not necessary that gold prices rise every day.
According to the Financial Times report, some investment managers expect gold prices to hit new records in the next 12 to 24 months. In January 2026, the price of gold in the international market at one time reached above 5,500 dollars per troy ounce. After this a decline in prices was also seen.
Factors like purchases by central banks, increasing government debt and uncertainty about the global economy are behind the positive estimates of experts. However, this is a market estimate, not a definitive prediction. In the coming months, US monetary policy, movement of the dollar and demand from investors can play an important role in deciding the direction of gold.
On October 16, 2026, the price in Comex Gold Futures was trading at 4,177.50 dollars per troy ounce with a gain of 0.18 per cent. At the same time, silver futures increased by 0.48 per cent, and the price reached 57.43 dollars an ounce.
However, earlier US inflation data and fears of a possible increase in interest rates had put pressure on precious metals. Higher interest rates may put pressure on investments like gold, which do not yield regular interest.
Despite slight recovery in the international market, there was pressure on gold and silver prices in the domestic market. According to PTI report, the price of gold fell by Rs 900 to Rs 1.49 lakh per 10 grams in New Delhi on Thursday. This was the fourth consecutive trading session when prices declined. At the same time, silver became cheaper by Rs 6,000 to Rs 2.15 lakh per kg.
Apart from the international market, domestic prices are also affected by the movement of rupee, local demand and import costs. Therefore, it is not necessary that when the international market rises, the gold prices in the Indian market should increase in the same proportion.
