New Delhi: The country's largest private oil company Naira Energy has reduced the prices of petrol and diesel. The company has made petrol cheaper by Rs 5 and diesel by Rs 3 per litre at all its petrol pumps from Wednesday. This is the first major reduction by a private company in more than 2 years.

Why did petrol and diesel become cheaper?

According to experts, after the tension in West Asia subsided, the prices of crude oil have fallen in the international market. To pass on this benefit to the customers, Naira Energy has reduced the rates. The company has more than 7,000 petrol pumps across the country and the new rates have been implemented everywhere. But due to VAT and local tax being different in every state, the final price may fluctuate slightly.

Have the government companies changed the prices or not?

Currently, Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum have not reduced the prices of petrol and diesel. More than 90% of the petrol pumps in the country belong to these government companies. Petrol is still available at Rs 102.12 per litre and diesel at Rs 95.20 per litre at Indian Oil pumps in Delhi.

Were prices increased in March?

In March 2026, crude oil became expensive due to increasing tension regarding Iran. Then Naira Energy was the first to make petrol expensive by Rs 5 and diesel by Rs 3. Later, government companies also increased the prices. Now the company has withdrawn the March increase.

Will other companies also reduce the prices?

Market experts say that if the prices of crude oil remain under control, then other oil companies can also make petrol and diesel cheaper in the coming days. According to sources, the maintenance work of Nayara Energy's refinery in Vadinar, Gujarat has been completed. Now the company is ready to supply oil as per demand across the country.
