Petrol Diesel Rate Today: No Relief or Hike Yet, Rising Crude Prices May Push Fuel Rates Higher (X)
New Delhi: There is no change in the prices of petrol and diesel in major cities of the country on Saturday, August 15, 2026. Rates have remained stable for the last several days and even today customers are getting fuel at the old rates. However, there has been a sharp rise in the prices of crude oil in the international market. Crude became costlier by more than $1 on Friday. Due to this, the price of petrol and diesel may be affected in the coming days.
In the country's capital Delhi, today petrol is being sold at Rs 102.12 per liter and diesel at Rs 95.20 per liter. Talking about premium petrol:
XP95 petrol: Rs 109.24 per liter
Ethanol-free XP100 premium petrol: Rs 167.35 per liter These rates are released by the government oil companies every day at 6 am.
Even in big metro cities, the prices are stable and the rates of last week are the same.
Mumbai: Petrol Rs 111.21/litre, diesel Rs 97.83/litre
Kolkata: Petrol Rs 113.51/litre, diesel Rs 99.82/litre
Chennai: Petrol Rs 107.77/litre, diesel Rs 99.55/litre
Bengaluru: Petrol Rs 111.68/litre, diesel Rs 99.56/litre
There is a slight difference in rates in every city depending on taxes and transportation. For this reason, petrol is most expensive in Kolkata and cheapest in Delhi.
A big increase was seen in the prices of crude oil in the global market on Friday.
Brent Crude: increased by 1.45 to 88.52 dollars per barrel.
US WTI Crude: increased by 1.15 to 82.40 dollars per barrel.
There are 3 main reasons behind this rise. First, tension between America and Iran. Talks regarding the nuclear deal between the two countries are not progressing. Second, attacks on oil tankers at sea. Due to this, the fear of supply disruption has increased. Third turmoil in the Strait of Hormuz. There is uncertainty about shipping in this area.
The Strait of Hormuz is the busiest oil route in the world. About 20 percent of the oil consumed worldwide goes through this route. Big oil producing countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait and UAE export their crude oil through this route. If shipping is affected here, there will be a direct impact on global supply and prices may increase further.
Currently, retail prices in India are stable because oil companies are still running on old stocks and hedging. But if crude remains around 88-90 dollars and the tension in West Asia does not subside, then petrol and diesel may become expensive in the coming 1-2 weeks. The government and oil companies are constantly keeping an eye on the situation.
If you want to check today's petrol-diesel rate in your city, you can check it at the nearest petrol pump or on the website of the oil company.
