New Delhi: Despite fluctuations in crude oil prices in the international market, there was no change in the retail prices of petrol and diesel across the country on Tuesday. There was a softening in the prices of Brent crude, but it has not yet affected Indian consumers. Government oil marketing companies (OMCs) have kept fuel prices stable and petrol and diesel prices in the country are applicable as per the previous major revised rates.

Why are the prices of petrol and diesel stable?

In recent times, both rising and falling prices of crude oil have been seen globally. Despite this, there was no change in retail fuel prices in India. This is because government oil companies review prices keeping in mind the international market, taxes, transportation costs and other factors.

Why did the prices of Brent crude soften?

Brent crude prices in the international market have softened somewhat after the recent rise. The main reason for this is believed to be the ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce tension between America and Iran. However, due to the ongoing tension in West Asia, the oil market still remains uncertain.

What could be the impact of US-Iran tension?

The ongoing military tension between the US and Iran and growing concerns over the Strait of Hormuz have focused the global oil market's attention on the Middle East. If the situation worsens or oil supply is affected, international crude oil prices may rise again in the coming days.
