New Delhi: After the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Tuesday cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3, the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) staged protests against the central government, demanding accountability and transparency in the examination process.

What is the reason of protest?

Amid allegations of a paper leak, NTA announced that the medical entrance test will be held again on fresh dates to be notified separately.

Following the cancellation, the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) staged protests against the central government, demanding accountability and transparency in the examination process.

The decision to scrap the exam was taken with the approval of the Central government after inputs examined in coordination with central agencies and findings shared by law enforcement authorities.

The cancellation triggered protests by student organisations in several parts of the country. One such protest, organised by the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress, was held near Shastri Bhawan, the headquarters of the Union Education Ministry in central Delhi.

Will CBI investigate?

The NTA has cancelled the NEET exam and handed over the investigation to the CBI. According to an official statement, with the approval of the government, the National Testing Agency has decided to cancel the NEET (UG) 2026 exam conducted on May 3, and reschedule the exam on separately notified dates.

The governemnt has decided to hand over the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations. The NTA will extend full cooperation to the Bureau and provide all materials, records, and assistance necessary for the investigation. No new registration will be required, and no additional examination fees will be charged. Furthermore, fees already paid will be refunded to students, and the exam will be rescheduled using NTA's internal resources. Further information, including the dates of the rescheduled exam and the schedule for reissued admit cards, will be released through the agency's official channels.
