Guwahati: With the formation of the new government in Assam, Ajanta Niyog is once again in the news. In the second term of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, she has been given the responsibility of ministerial post. The special thing is that she is the only woman minister in the current cabinet. Ajanta Neog, who won from Golaghat assembly seat for the sixth consecutive time, is counted among the strongest women leaders of the state. Due to her long political experience and administrative hold, she is being considered an important face of the government.
Ajanta Neog won the assembly elections for the first time in the year 2001. After this she never looked back. Her dominance in Golaghat seat continued and she won every election. After becoming MLA several times on Congress ticket, she joined BJP in 2020. Despite changing parties, public trust remained with her and she won consecutive victories even as a BJP candidate.
In the previous government, Ajanta Niyog was given the responsibility of the finance ministry. With this she became the first woman finance minister of Assam. Her role in the government was considered very important. Her working style regarding administrative decisions and budget management was also discussed. Political experts believe that due to this experience she has got important responsibility in the new government.
Ajanta Neog's family has been associated with politics for a long time. Her mother Rebati Das has also been an MLA. Being in a political environment since childhood gave her a good understanding of public life. This was the reason why after coming into politics, she quickly made her mark.
Before becoming active in politics, Ajanta Neog worked in the field of law. She completed her higher education from Gauhati University and later practiced law in the Gauhati High Court. Her understanding of legal matters and administrative experience established her as a strong leader in politics.
The decision to leave Congress and join BJP in the year 2020 was considered a big turning point in her political career. At that time this was seen as an important change in the politics of Assam. Even after joining BJP, her popularity remained. Now, after her sixth consecutive victory and becoming a minister again, her political stature is being considered stronger.
