New Delhi: After the NEET re-exam, the final results were released on July 16, and now it's time for counseling. The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) is scheduled to release the official schedule in the last week of July. The registration and choice filling process is expected to begin between late July and August.

Consequently, millions of students and parents are preparing for counseling and admission. Sometimes, despite good scores, admission to a good college is denied, as small mistakes made during counseling can deter you from your desired college or force you to settle for a poor seat.

Therefore, make a list of at least 50-100 colleges based on your rank, even if you don't want to enroll in all of them.

Prioritizing only top colleges

Everyone wants AIIMS or a top government college, but focusing solely on the big names and leaving out other good colleges can prove costly. Sometimes, even second-tier colleges have excellent faculty and infrastructure. In such a situation, keep your dream college at the top, but also include realistic and safe options in your list.

Ignoring last year's cutoff

Cutoffs change every year. Therefore, filling in choices without reviewing the data can be risky. Filling in a list without research often leads to the wrong outcome. Therefore, carefully review cutoff trends, seat metrics, and college rankings over the past 2-3 years before finalizing your list.

Locking Choices at the Last Moment

Technical problems, server slowdowns, payment failures, etc, all these are common in the final hours. Because of this, many students are unable to lock in their correct choices. Therefore, lock your final list at least a day before the deadline; don't wait until the last minute.

Not reading the fee structure and bond terms

Many times, students simply select a college based on its name, but fail to carefully review the fees, bond policy, and eligibility criteria. Consequently, after seat allotment, they discover that the budget or conditions do not match. Therefore, it's important to note the fee details and bond conditions for each college in advance to avoid any surprises after receiving a seat.
