NEET UG (X)
New Delhi: Preparations have begun to increase MBBS seats at Motilal Nehru Medical College in Prayagraj. The plan is to increase the number of MBBS seats from 200 to 250. To this end, the government has requested information from the college administration regarding available resources, faculty, library, hostel, and mess facilities. The increase in seats could benefit medical students. Meanwhile, given the increasing number of patients at SRN Hospital, plans to expand the hospital are also being rapidly implemented.
The SRN Hospital, affiliated with Motilal Nehru Medical College in Prayagraj, is undergoing expansion. In light of this, the medical college is preparing to add 50 additional MBBS seats. The government has requested the necessary information for this purpose. The college administration is preparing a report detailing available resources and facilities. Currently, the college has 200 MBBS seats. If the proposal is approved, this number could increase to 250. This will provide more admission opportunities for students interested in pursuing medical studies.
Motilal Nehru Medical College began in 1961 with 50 MBBS seats. The number was subsequently increased to 100 in 1967, 150 in 2013, and 200 in 2019. Now, nearly seven years later, preparations are underway to further increase the number of seats. The annual MBBS fee at the college is approximately 35,000 to 38,000 rupees. Due to this low fee, pursuing medical education here is considered an affordable option for students.
SRN Hospital's outpatient department sees approximately 700,000 patients each year. Between 65,000 and 68,000 patients are admitted annually. For the past four years, the number of outpatients has been increasing by approximately 80,000 patients each year.
To accommodate the increasing number of patients, the hospital is preparing to open a 100-bed critical care center and a 200-bed children's hospital. Additionally, there are plans to build a Level 1 trauma center, a multi-story parking lot, and a single facility for all diagnostic facilities. Land acquisition for this purpose has been completed, and demolition of old housing is progressing rapidly. In the future, the hospital will expand to Mahatma Gandhi Marg.
