Born in Patna, Bihar, in 1976, Misa Bharti is the eldest among the nine children of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi. Her entry into politics was influenced by her familial ties and the tumultuous political environment of the time.

Origin of her name

Misa's name holds a major historical context, derived from the acronym MISA (Maintenance of Internal Security Act). Lalu Yadav named her during his imprisonment under this act during the emergency period in India.

Educational pursuits and personal life

Misa Bharti pursued her education in medicine, excelling in her studies and earning distinctions in gynecology. She married Shailesh Kumar, a computer engineer, in 1999, and the couple has three children. She is known for her fiery temperament.

Political ascent and milestones

Misa's foray into politics began with her active involvement in her family's political affairs during her father's imprisonment in 1998. Over the years, she has navigated through various political roles and responsibilities:

  • 2014: Contesting the Lok Sabha election for the Pataliputra constituency but facing defeat.
