West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) unveiled its manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Wednesday, April 17. During the manifesto launch, the TMC declared its objective: "Let's overthrow the BJP Zamindars and pave the way for a dignified life for all!"

Addressing a rally earlier in the day, Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of turning the entire country into a "detention camp" and assured that if the opposition bloc INDIA secures power at the Centre, the CAA and NRC will be abolished.

Moreover, the TMC outlined various welfare measures to be implemented if the INDIA bloc emerges victorious in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. These include doorstep ration delivery and the provision of 10 free cooking cylinders for below-poverty-line (BPL) families, among other initiatives.

TMC's Key manifesto promises for Lok Sabha Elections 2024

1. Education and Employment:

The Trinamool Congress vows to introduce one-year apprenticeships with stipends for graduates and diploma holders up to the age of 25, alongside the issuance of Student Credit Cards to facilitate higher education, with a credit limit of up to ₹10 lakh. Moreover, the party pledges to triple the number of higher education scholarships for SCs, STs, and OBCs students.

2. Farmers' Support

In a bid to support India's farmers, the TMC pledges to legally guarantee the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, adhering to the recommendations laid out by the Swaminathan Commission. The MSP will be set at a minimum of 50 percent higher than the average cost of production for all crops.

3. Pension Enhancement

Recognizing the need to bolster support for the elderly, the Trinamool Congress promises to enhance the current Old Age Pension for individuals aged 60 and above to ₹1,000 per month, aiming to alleviate financial burdens for senior citizens.

4. Fuel Price Regulation

To address concerns regarding the soaring prices of essential commodities, the TMC manifesto emphasizes the regulation of petrol, diesel, and LPG cylinder prices, ensuring affordability and accessibility for all sections of society.

5. Ration Distribution

As part of its commitment to food security, the Trinamool Congress pledges to provide 5 kg of free ration every month to every ration card holder. Moreover, the party promises to streamline distribution by facilitating doorstep delivery of ration to beneficiaries, thereby enhancing convenience and efficiency.

6. Clean Cooking Fuel Access

Recognizing the importance of promoting environmentally-friendly practices and ensuring access to clean cooking fuel, the TMC vows to provide 10 free LPG cylinders annually to all Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. This initiative aims to improve the quality of life for vulnerable households while promoting sustainable development.

7. Legislative Reforms

Taking a firm stance on contentious issues, the Trinamool Congress advocates for the abolition of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the discontinuation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Additionally, the party declares its decision not to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) across India, aiming to uphold diversity and secular principles.
