TVK vs DMK: Vijay Sets Stage for Direct Showdown in Tamil Nadu Elections 2026 (X)
Chennai: Before the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, actor Vijay has taken a big gamble. The Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief, who is contesting the elections for the first time, has announced that he will contest from two seats, Chennai's Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East. Along with this, he also released the first list of candidates of his party.
This step of Vijay gives a direct message that he wants to show impact and not just entry. One seat is from the capital Chennai, the other is from the hinterland—that is, an attempt to capture different areas.
The party did not do many new experiments. Only people from the core team have been fielded. Names like N. Anand, Adhav Arjuna, Arunraj and Nirmal Kumar occupy prominent seats. It is clear that Vijay wants to start with people he trusts.

Vijay clearly said from the stage, "The fight is straightforward." On one side is his “People's Team”, on the other side is the DMK government. He also targeted DMK and called it abuse of power.
Vijay made his candidates take an oath against corruption. He said that he cannot be everywhere, hence such people have been selected who work among the public.

Focus was seen on youth in the manifesto. Talk of a drug-free Tamil Nadu, loans without guarantee up to Rs 20 lakh for education, transparency in jobs, unemployment allowance, many such promises have been made.
Voting will take place in Tamil Nadu in a single phase on April 23. The results will come on May 4. The tenure of the Assembly is till May 10, so the new government will be formed soon.
Till now the contest was considered to be between two alliances. But after Vijay's entry the picture has changed a bit. How much impact it will have will become clear only after voting.
