Kathmandu: Veteran Nepali film actor Sunil Thapa passed away suddenly in Kathmandu on February 7, 2026, at the age of 68. He was last seen in the series 'The Family Man'. Thapa was a legendary figure in Nepali cinema and had acted in over 300 films. He was recently seen in Raj and DK's crime series 'The Family Man 3'. According to several reports, the cause of Sunil Thapa's death is believed to be a heart attack. According to Rajendra Bahadur Singh, chairman of Norvic Hospital in Thapathali, Thapa was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state. An ECG was performed at 7:44 AM, which confirmed his death. Doctors suspect that the cause of death was a heart attack. Speaking to the Post, he said, "He was unconscious when he was brought in. An ECG was immediately performed, which confirmed his death."
Before entering films, Sunil Thapa began his career as a model in Mumbai in the 1970s and worked for several clothing brands. He also played football for clubs in Bombay. Besides being a model and actor, Thapa also worked as a photojournalist and covered the coronation of Bhutan in 1974.
