Rajpal Yadav's Cheque Bounce Case: Delhi HC to take up the actor's Rs 9 crore Debt case today (X)
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday granted interim bail to Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav in the Rs 9 crore cheque-bounce case after depositing Rs 2.5 crore.
The actor had sought bail to attend his niece’s wedding in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh on February 19.
Rajpal Yadav deposited Rs 1.75 crore today and had earlier deposited Rs 75 lakh, which totaled to Rs 2.5 crore.
The actor's lawyer Bhaskar Upadhyay said that Yadav has paid Rs 2.5 crore in the Rs 9 crore cheque bounce-case. The initial amount of debt is Rs 5 crore, with interest, penalty and other additions the total sum payable by Rajpal Yadav stands at Rs 9 crore.
The court directed Rajpal Yadav to surrender his passport (if not done yet), pay bail bond of Rs 1 lakh with a surety of like amount, and not leave the country without its permission.
The next hearing is scheduled on March 18.
The court has also directed Rajpal Yadav to either be present in court physically or if the work does not permit join through video conference for the hearing on March 18.
In the previous hearing on February 12, the Delhi High Court had rejected his bail request and asked the complainant to submit a reply and scheduled the next hearing for February 16.
The court said, "When I was going through the file, there were so many things we didn’t even know. They have challenged the first order before the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court did not grant them any relief. Anyway, we will take it up on Monday."
Rajpal Yadav had appealed to the court to grant him interim bail to attend his niece's wedding.
On February 12, the actor's lawyer requested interim bail so that Yadav could attend his elder brother's daughter's wedding.
In the response, the Delhi High Court said, "We may have sympathy for you, but the law is the law. You did not surrender despite the court's order… and only surrendered when the court issued the order again."
Ahead of the bail hearing, actor Sonu Sood took to X and expressed his support.
"Today is an important day for our brother Rajpal Yadav bhai. Praying that things move in the right direction and he gets the relief he deserves. He’s a rare talent and a wonderful soul. Let’s not let the momentum die, we stand with him and will keep going till things are right (sic)," he wrote.

Rajpal Yadav's manager, Goldie has revealed that many well-known Bollywood actors have extended their support
In a statement, Goldie said, "Many people have come forward to help Rajpal Yadav. Actors like Sonu Sood, Salman Khan, and Ajay Devgan have offered their support. I was just on a call with David Dhawan; he has also offered his support. Ratan Nain, Varun Dhawan... This time, many people are coming forward to help him, which Rajpal has greatly appreciated."
For the unversed, it is to be mentioned here that in 2010, Rajpal Yadav borrowed Rs 5 crore from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd as a financial aid for his directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata. As his film failed to perform well at the box office, the loan remained unpaid. As per court records, seven cheques that were issued to the complainant was bounced. The matter was then escalated into a criminal case under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
Rajpal Yadav along with his wife Radha was convicted by a Magisterial Court in April 2018. He was sentenced to six months of simple imprisonment. The conviction was upheld by a Sessions Court in early 2019. Yadav then moved the Delhi High Court in appeal.
Earlier, a report surfaced that Rajpal Yadav made an emotional statement before surrendering to the officials. In his emotional statement, Rajpal Yadav was quoted by News X as saying, “Sir, kya karoon? Mere paas paise nahin hain. Aur koi upaay nahin dikhta… Sir, yahan hum sab akele hain. There are no friends. I have to deal with this crisis on my own. (Sir, what should I do? I don’t have the money. I see no other way… Sir, here we are all alone.)”
