Entertainment News: Anurag Kashyap to Quit Mumbai, Shift to South; he claims that the "joy of filmmaking" has been "sucked out" by rising costs and a commercial mindset that reduces film production to a mere business venture. He wants to head south so he could get fresh artistic stimulation and get away from the suffocating atmosphere in which he feels Bollywood has placed him.

Talent agencies hunting for 'Star'

Talent management agencies featured largely in one of the grievances Kashyap was having. These agencies use the young actor solely on account of the money being minted by them, according to him. He was of the opinion that this industry makes a small-time talent into a superstar and does not teach them how to act, according to the director. He also detested the glamorous culture of this industry in which one's appearance and social networking influence often surpasses their talent and performance. "The agency will not make anyone a star, but the moment that someone becomes a star, the agency makes money out of them," Kashyap said, adding these agencies often dumped actors the moment they failed to do so.

Frustration at Bollywood

Kashyap lamented the way the Hindi film industry today is extremely risk-averse and is going back to back remake after remake. He will mention Manjummel Boys, a Malayalam film, as one of the genres of new cinema that will never be made in Hindi. He believes that the industry only imitates and does not allow for newness and experimentation. One of the reasons for Kashyap's alienation from the industry is that it refuses to hear new voices and stories.

Broken Ties and a Changing Scene

Kashyap ranted about the broken relationships and how the industry has worsened, especially with a few actors he once called friends. He recalls one such incident when an actor who was sent away from the sets of the films returned to Kashyap as that agency deserted him. For Kashyap, this incident symbolizes how superficial the industry is; here, actors are being dealt with as commodities rather than collaborators.
