Gaurav Devasi, a talented actor from Kothar village in Pali, Rajasthan, has made a name for himself in both Bollywood and Rajasthani cinema. From a young age, he was passionate about acting and drama, which led him to leave his MCA studies midway and pursue a career in films. Starting with school plays and recitations, Gaurav once queued for auditions in Jaipur and Udaipur, dreaming of a career in acting. Today, he has appeared in several Rajasthani movies and Bollywood films, overcoming many challenges along the way. His latest Rajasthani film, 'Awakara', is soon to be released, marking another milestone in his journey from a passionate school performer to a recognized actor.

Passion for Acting Sparked in School

Gaurav revealed that his interest in acting began in childhood. On one Republic Day, he was asked to recite the poem “Man Mast Fakiri Dhari Hai” on stage in front of everyone. Although he hesitated initially, that moment became a turning point in his life. Watching dances at weddings and parties further inspired him to pursue acting. He mentioned that his first school play received praise from both classmates and teachers. During the shoot of the film Student Life, he was honoured by senior IAS officer Dr. Jitendra Soni from Rajasthan. In 2024, the Rajasthan government recognised him for his excellent work in Rajasthani cinema, and in 2023, he was awarded the National Excellence Award at the Best Artist of the Year event in Delhi.

Journey Outside Home in 2013

Gaurav shared that due to his deep interest in drama, his family sent him to the neighbouring Sirohi district for studies, where he completed his graduation from MLSU College. Alongside his studies, he secretly began theatre work and got his first film break with Student Life. Since then, he has acted in five regional films and three Bollywood movies, including Student Life, Fear Face, Prem Thi Javo, Vachan, Hamari Swabhiman Amar Rahe, Jangli, Gadar-2, and Bade Miya Chote Miya. He has also appeared in web series like Pathan and First Date, and in productions like Mhari Mayad, Pran Preet Na Bandhya Bandhan, and Riti-Riwaz.

Upcoming Film Projects

Gaurav revealed that his upcoming films include Gora Badal, Aeklo Rabari, and Aranya Purush. In Gora Badal, he plays the character of Aladdin, and the film is expected to rival Bollywood’s Padmavat. He will also be seen in Aeklo Rabari as Verma Ji, and in the tribal-themed movie Aranya Purush.

Family Initially Opposed Acting

Gaurav shared that his father was initially against his involvement in drama. However, when he saw Gaurav’s photo in a newspaper while performing theatre in Jaipur, he started to feel a little better. As Gaurav’s success grew, his family fully supported him. In 2018, he got a role in the film Riti Riwaz, which he considers a major milestone. That film brought him significant recognition.

Influences and Inspirations in Bollywood

Gaurav stated that although there are many big names in the film industry, he is particularly inspired by Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi. He hopes to share screen space with them in the future. He enjoys playing different types of characters and prefers experimenting with new roles rather than sticking to one type of role.

Advice for Aspiring Young Actors

For youngsters aspiring to enter acting, Gaurav advises working hard on oneself and one’s craft, staying persistent, and giving full effort to whatever they aim to achieve. “Even I knew very little in the beginning, but with determination and hard work, the paths gradually open up,” he said.
