New Delhi: Bollywood actress and Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Mandi Lok Sabha constituency in Himachal Pradesh, Kangana Ranaut, has approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of her personal rights. The petition was filed by Kangana in the High Court on Wednesday.
During the hearing, a bench headed by Justice Vikas Mahajan issued notice on the petition and asked who the individuals against whom the removal order is being sought are. The bench also issued notice on the actress's petition for an interim stay.
Kangana Ranaut's lawyer told the bench that she was disturbed by the pornographic and obscene content being continuously posted against her on social media. He also cited certain AI-generated materials against the actress. The lawyer stated that a fact-check proves that all of this objectionable material was created using AI.
The lawyer further stated that a fact-finding investigation found that no such photograph existed. The bench asked the actress's lawyer to provide the names of the defendants against whom the removal of the content is being sought. An order can now be passed on the actress's petition for an interim stay. The bench scheduled the next hearing for February 3, 2027.
Ranaut's lawyer objected to the use of sexually explicit and graphic content about her, fake news, and AI-generated content falsely attributing things the BJP leader actually said. He said memes and other objectionable satirical content also exist, but he is not seeking relief against these at the interim level.
Meanwhile, the court also issued summons on a separate petition filed by Telugu actor Vijay Deverakonda regarding his personality rights and said it would pass an interim order in that case as well. Senior counsel representing Deverakonda alleged that the actor's personality was being used for unauthorized commercial purposes by third parties through various means, including the sale of merchandise featuring his personality.
The senior advocate said that cases of AI-generated social media posts, impersonation of actors, false propaganda and use of abusive language have also come to light.
Let us tell you that earlier, many public figures including Bollywood actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Salman Khan , Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and cricketer Abhishek Sharma have approached the High Court seeking protection of their personality and publicity rights.
