'It Broke Me': Samay Raina Says He Had to Delete Show After Editor’s Arrest (X)
New Delhi: Stand-up comedian Samay Raina has spoken in detail for the first time about the controversy related to his popular show, India's Got Latent. In a new video, he recalled the entire period when his show was in the news on social media but had to be stopped suddenly after a controversial comment. He admitted that this incident was very heavy for him both personally and professionally.
Actually, an objectionable question asked by guest Ranveer Allahbadia in an episode of the show created controversy. The clip quickly went viral and people reacted strongly, calling it indecent. The situation escalated to such an extent that numerous states filed complaints and initiated legal action.
This show was very much discussed at that time and a large number of people were watching it. According to reports, it quickly became popular on YouTube and each episode received a wide audience. But due to this popularity, controversies spread more rapidly and the scope of criticism also became larger.
As the controversy escalated, the situation became such that all the episodes of the show had to be removed. Raina himself admitted that this decision was not easy, but the circumstances were beyond his control. It is said that in February 2025, the entire show was removed from YouTube and cooperation was asked in the investigation.
The pressure increased further after the entry of police in this whole matter. After FIRs were registered in different states, many people associated with the show were called for questioning. The allegations pertained to the circulation of obscene and objectionable content, which extended the matter beyond social media.
After the controversy, everyone involved publicly apologized. Ranveer Allahbadia also expressed regret over his statement, while Raina also talked about cooperating in the investigation and creating responsible content in the future. After this the matter seemed to calm down gradually.
Analysts believe that this incident sparked a new debate about the limits of digital content and comedy. This case became an example of the fact that the faster one gets popularity on social media, the faster the controversy can increase. Now many creators seem more cautious about their content than before.
