Tamil Nadu CM Vijay, Sangeetha's Divorce Case Adjourned To August 7 (x)

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK leader C Joseph Vijay is in the news for both his professional and personal life. The actor-turned-politician and his wife Sangeetha Vijay's divorce petition was reportedly heard at the Chengalpattu Family Welfare Court on Monday. After the proceedings, the court adjourned the matter to August 7 for the next hearing.

Were couple present in the court?

The case came up for hearing before the family court, but both CM Vijay and Sangeetha were absent. Following this, the court postponed the matter to August 7 for the next hearing.

What is the case?

Sangeetha had filed a petition before the Chengalpattu Family Court on December 2025 seeking divorce from CM Vijay, citing irreconcilable differences.

Sangeeta filed for divorce on February 22. She alleged that Vijay was having an affair with another woman. The case was initially listed for April 20. When Vijay and Sangeeta failed to appear for the first hearing, the Chengalpattu Family Court ordered them to appear on June 15.

According to Sangeeta, she came to know in 2021 that Vijay was having an affair with another woman. She said that when she confronted Vijay about this, he repeatedly assured her that he would end the relationship. The petition
claimed that he not only continued the relationship but also went on trips and attended events with the woman.

In her petition, Sangeetha stated that she and Vijay have been married for 26 years and that she dedicated herself to managing the household and raising their two children, Jason Sanjay, 25, and Dhivya Sasha, 20.

What about the marraige?

In her petition, Sangeetha again stated that she had suffered immense mental distress. Based on these claims, a divorce case was filed under relevant sections of the Special Marriage Act.
Vijay and Sangeeta were married in 1999 and now want to end their 27-year-old marriage.
