New Delhi: Following the BJP's historic victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, a statement made by renowned poet Kumar Vishwas has gone viral on social media. In fact, during a poetry recital (Kavi Sammelan), Kumar Vishwas made a remark that left everyone present bursting into laughter. Kumar Vishwas offered his take on how, exactly, Mamata Banerjee ended up losing in West Bengal.

What Was Kumar Vishwas' Jibe at Rahul Gandhi?

Speaking from the stage in his signature style, Kumar Vishwas remarked, "Some are crediting Narendra Modi for the BJP's resounding victory in Bengal; others are crediting Amit Shah, while some point to Suvendu Adhikari..."

"However—quite apart from all of them—no one is giving any credit to one poor young leader, and this saddens me deeply." Continuing his jibe, he added, "A young man came here and went from street to street, urging people: 'Defeat Mamata!' That man is Rahul Gandhi."

Did Kumar Vishwas Lose Elections from Amethi?

From the stage, Kumar Vishwas aimed a satirical arrow at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. It is worth noting that Kumar Vishwas had contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections against Rahul Gandhi from the Amethi constituency. However, he suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Rahul in that election.

How Did BJP Claim Resounding Victory in West Bengal?

The BJP has achieved a resounding victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections. The party secured a massive win on 207 seats within the 294-member Legislative Assembly. Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress was reduced to a mere 80 seats, while the Congress party managed to secure just two seats.

Throughout the entire election campaign, the Congress party remained on the offensive against the TMC, alongside the BJP. From issues concerning the RG Kar Medical College to allegations of corruption, the Congress took direct aim at the TMC. Following this victory, Suvendu Adhikari has assumed office as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal.
