Entertainment news: As the Academy Awards are set to announce their nominees on January 23, the 45th annual Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies) have already announced their contenders, which shed light on the cinematic missteps of the year. At the top of the list is Joker: Folie à Deux, which received seven nominations after a lackluster audience reception and poor box office performance.
Joker: Folie à Deux, released in 2024, fell far short of its predecessor’s triumph, earning $206 million globally against a hefty $200 million budget. In stark contrast, the original Joker raked in over $1 billion worldwide, solidifying its place in cinematic history.
Other films sharing the spotlight include Borderlands, Madame Web, Megalopolis, and Reagan, each with six nominations. The nominations span categories such as Worst Picture, Worst Director, and Worst Performances, with notable stars like Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Cate Blanchett, and Jon Voight making the list.
Among the Worst Picture nominees are Joker: Folie à Deux, Borderlands, Madame Web, Megalopolis, and Reagan. The Worst Actor category features Joaquin Phoenix (Joker: Folie à Deux), Dennis Quaid (Reagan), and Jerry Seinfeld (Unfrosted). Meanwhile, Lady Gaga (Joker: Folie à Deux) and Cate Blanchett (Borderlands) are in the running for Worst Actress.
Shia LaBeouf for Megalopolis and Kevin Hart for Borderlands will vie for Worst Supporting Actor. Amy Schumer for Unfrosted and Ariana DeBose for Argylle, Kraven the Hunter will battle it out for Worst Supporting Actress. Worst Screen Combo includes "Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga" in Joker: Folie à Deux and "The Entire Cast of Megalopolis."
The Razzie nominations were determined by 1,202 members from 49 U.S. states and numerous international participants. Winners will be announced on March 1 via a video press release.
