Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that, in the times to come, Artificial Intelligence (AI) will become the single most critical factor for global progress, economic prosperity, and technological innovation. This is precisely why a fierce race to secure the number one spot in the field of AI is currently underway among the world's major nations and leading corporations. According to reports, Putin made these remarks during a major event held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. The theme of this forum was "The Eurasian Economic Union in the Global Digital Race: Betting on Artificial Intelligence."
It is worth noting that the Eurasian Economic Forum was attended by leaders of member nations, representatives of international organizations, business luminaries, experts, and heads of financial institutions. During the event, approximately 30 specialized sessions were held to discuss various facets of economic cooperation, digitalization, modern technology, and artificial intelligence.
According to a report by samaa.com, President Putin observed that standardized digital systems are already operational among the nations of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), facilitating mutual trade, online business, labor markets, and data exchange. However, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has now emerged as an entirely new—and indeed, the most vital—instrument for fostering collaborative synergy among these nations.
Putin asserted that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a sophisticated and strategic technology that is rapidly becoming the fundamental bedrock for global competitiveness, economic stability, and modern-era development. He further noted that, within the global landscape of AI, Russia possesses distinct advantages that position it ahead of its peers. These include a robust educational system, exceptional scientific talent, a highly skilled workforce, and substantial financial and institutional resources dedicated to the development of this technology.
He further explained that the operation and development of AI systems require immense amounts of electricity and energy. In this regard, Russia stands in a very strong position, as it possesses a vast and robust foundation of nuclear power, hydroelectricity, and conventional energy sources. It is precisely these assets that place Russia at the forefront of this sector and underscore its strength.
President Putin warned that, in the future, Artificial Intelligence (AI) could fundamentally transform the global labor market. Consequently, millions of people may find it necessary to change their professions, while numerous jobs could cease to exist entirely. He further stated that, in the coming decades, computer-based intelligence could displace humans in a wide range of sectors. Additionally, he announced that Russia has established a global alliance to foster international cooperation in the field of Artificial Intelligence and has proposed hosting a high-level international summit on AI in Russia next year.
