World News: Late Saturday night, Afghanistan experienced two earthquakes within less than an hour, causing panic among residents in several regions. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), both quakes occurred during the early morning hours of Indian Standard Time and were moderate in magnitude.
The first tremor struck around 1:26 AM IST. NCS reported its magnitude as 4.2 on the Richter scale. The earthquake originated 190 kilometers below the Earth’s surface. Because of the depth, the shaking was not very intense on the ground but still noticeable in many parts of the country.
Just 45 minutes later, a second earthquake was recorded at 2:11 AM IST, this time measuring 4.0 magnitude. Though slightly weaker than the first, this second tremor added to the fear among the people. Many left their homes in the middle of the night, worried about the possibility of stronger aftershocks.
Fortunately, no injuries or structural damage have been reported from either event so far. Local authorities are keeping a close watch and have advised people to remain cautious.
In a separate seismic incident, Myanmar was hit by a mild earthquake early Saturday morning. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the tremor occurred at 3:26 AM IST and measured 3.7 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located 105 kilometers deep, reducing its surface-level impact. No damage or injuries have been reported from Myanmar either.
While all three tremors were considered moderate, experts believe this is a reminder of the seismic sensitivity in the South and Central Asian region. They advise residents in earthquake-prone areas to stay aware, especially during the night when evacuation is harder.
Government agencies in both countries are monitoring the situation closely and will issue alerts if necessary.
