International News: The US has imported eggs from Russia for the first time in several decades. This information has been given by Russia's state news agency RIA Novosti. According to the report, in July 2025, the US purchased fresh eggs from Russia, which happened for the first time since 1992. This has happened after 32 years.

According to the report, in July 2025, the US spent $4,55,000 on fresh chicken eggs from Russia. The Russian government agency also shared this information on its X (formerly Twitter) handle.

Why did America have to buy eggs

The main reason behind this move is the shortage of eggs in America and the rise in prices. In early 2025, avian flu spread in America, which badly affected the country's chicken and egg stocks. Due to this, the prices of eggs increased rapidly.

Although there has been some relief in recent months, egg prices in July were 16.4 percent higher than last year. Therefore, the US government decided to import eggs from new sources to stabilize the supply.

Egg Purchase Limit Imposed USA

In the US, egg shortages and price spikes due to avian flu were a year-long problem. According to a CNN report in January 2025, many stores imposed limits on egg purchases, while by February the price of a dozen eggs had reached $7. Experts said it could take 6-9 months for the US food market to return to stability.

US-Russia trade declines

Remember that trade between Russia and America has decreased significantly. Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the US has imposed many strict economic and trade sanctions on Russia. These include freezing billions of dollars of Russia's central bank, removing major Russian banks from the SWIFT system, banning investment in the energy sector, and sanctions on many prominent Russians. Apart from this, the US has also banned the import of things like oil, gas, coal, marine products and diamonds from Russia. However, Trump and Putin met in Alaska, in which the two leaders discussed the possibilities of economic cooperation.
