A Bangladesh Air Force fighter plane crashed in the capital city, Dhaka. The crashed plane was a Chinese-made FT-7BGI fighter jet. The aircraft crashed near the Uttara campus of Milestone College in Dhaka. The pilot died in the accident. It is feared that several students may have been injured or killed.

Bangladesh had purchased FT-7BGI jets from China to strengthen its air defence. These jets are manufactured by the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation of China. The FT-7BGI is the latest and most advanced model of the F-7 fighter jet. Bangladesh purchased 36 of these jets from China in 2022. These aircraft are used for aerial attacks. The service ceiling of this jet is 17,500 metres (57,420 feet).

Chinese Equipment Also Failed in Operation Sindoor

This is not the first time that Chinese weapons have faced global embarrassment. Earlier, during Operation Sindoor, Pakistan was let down by Chinese equipment. In Lahore, a Chinese-made air defence radar was seriously damaged during the Indian strike. The YLC-8E anti-stealth radar deployed at Pakistan’s Chunian airbase in Punjab was completely destroyed.

Chinese-supplied drones and AR-1 laser-guided missiles, which Pakistan had launched at India, were intercepted and destroyed mid-air by India’s defence systems. This operation proved that Chinese weapons and fighter jets possessed by Pakistan failed to show significant impact in a time of serious crisis.
