International News: The interim government of Bangladesh is facing a huge political crisis these days. In the midst of anarchy arising in the last few months, Nobel Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, who was Prime Minister's post on Saturday, alleged in an emergency meeting that the obstacles in the government's functions are coming due to the "lost forces" and "foreign conspiracy," which aim to spread confusion and mistrust in the country.
On Saturday, Yunus presided over a two-hour emergency session of the Advisory Council held at the Planning Commission Office in Dhaka. The statement issued after this meeting said that the government will continue its work by giving priority to national interests, but if this work is disrupted, the government will put the whole situation in front of the public and then take necessary steps.
According to media reports in recent weeks, Younus had also expressed a desire to resign, causing panic in the country's politics. The meeting also stated that some "indiscriminate demands," "provocative statements," and "disruptive programs" are making general functioning impossible for administration.
The Advisory Council made it clear that the three main responsibilities of the government - to hold elections, implement reforms, and ensure justice—will be fulfilled.
A few hours after the meeting, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the new National Citizen Party (NCP) demanded that the government issue a roadmap for the national elections as soon as possible. At the same time, Army Chief General Walker-e-Zaman also warned that the elections should be held by December 2025 and the government should be elected by 1 January 2026.
On Saturday evening, a meeting of leaders of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami was also held in Younis's official residence, Jamun'a. According to media reports, this meeting was held on Yunus's initiative to reduce the political tension prevailing in the country. A senior BNP leader said that he would demand Vanus for clarity regarding the election roadmap and reform process.
After the meeting, Planning Advisor Waheeduddin Mahmood told the local media that the interim government would not go until the responsibilities assigned to him are fulfilled. "We cannot go without completing our work. He stated, "The nation's future hinges on this."
Significantly, Bangladesh has been struggling with political instability, protests on roads, and increasing incidents of crimes since the formation of an interim government under Younus in August 2024. BNP has already warned that if the government did not explain the election direction, they will start a nationwide movement
