Dhaka: Bangladesh President Mohammad Shahabuddin has indicated that he wants to step down before the completion of his term. He said that due to the functioning of the interim government, he had to feel continuously ignored and humiliated, due to which he is now uncomfortable continuing in the post.

Allegations of deteriorating relations with the interim government

According to the president, many decisions of the government were taken without his knowledge or role. He said that for seven months he did not even get a chance to meet the interim Prime Minister and Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus. The president also said that removing his official photographs from Bangladesh missions abroad sent a wrong message and created confusion among the public.

Desire to remain in office only till elections

Shahabuddin made it clear that he wants to remain in office only till the general elections proposed in February. He says that in the current circumstances his post has become formal and he has no role left in the decision process.

Tension increased after the political crisis of 2024

After Sheikh Hasina left the country and the government fell, Shahabuddin was the only constitutional functionary left. But now he says that the interim administration has removed him from the process, due to which the dignity of his position has been hurt.

Awaiting response from interim government

The interim government, or Mohammad Yunus' team, has not yet given any official response to these allegations of the president. There is a possibility of political tension increasing further before the upcoming elections in Bangladesh.
