Kyiv: Amid increasing tension with Iran, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has given a big statement regarding India. He said that India stands with Israel even in difficult times and PM Narendra Modi is one of his closest friends. Netanyahu said this during a conversation on foreign policy and made it clear that Israel is going to strengthen its relations with India in the coming times.
Netanyahu described PM Modi as his "close friend". He said that India is Israel's most trusted ally. The understanding and cooperation that has developed between the two countries in the last few years is an example for the world. Netanyahu said that India-Israel relations have reached new heights under the leadership of Modi.
Netanyahu said that Israel is working with new partners in the world, but India is most important in this. According to him, cooperation between the two countries in defence, technology, trade and cyber security will increase in the coming days. Israel considers India an important pillar of its foreign policy.
Amidst the Iran controversy, when the question was raised whether Israel was becoming isolated at the international level, Netanyahu rejected it outright. He said, "If we were alone, a big and strong country like India would not have stood with us." He described India's support as proof that Israel's strong friends are still with it.
In the last decade, both countries have joined hands in defence, agriculture, water, startups, cybersecurity and technology. The friendship between PM Modi and Netanyahu has strengthened this relationship at the personal level also. The two leaders have met several times and new agreements have been reached in every meeting.
When Netanyahu came to India in 2018, both countries had signed many big agreements regarding defence and technology. In 2026, this partnership was taken a step further. Both countries named it "India-Israel Special Strategic Partnership for Peace, Innovation and Prosperity". Under this, it has now been agreed to work together in areas like AI, critical minerals, education, health, trade and labour.
Netanyahu has said many times that India is the biggest emerging power of the 21st century. According to him, the friendship between India and Israel is not just out of necessity. It is based on trust, shared values and shared interests. He believes that this partnership will deepen in the coming times and will benefit both the countries. In short, amidst the tension with Iran, Netanyahu has strongly put forward friendship with India in front of the world.
