Toronto: A 37-year-old Indian-Canadian man was killed in a shooting by unknown assailants in the parking lot of a busy shopping center in Toronto, Canada. The Toronto Police Service identified the victim in a statement released Sunday as Chandan Kumar Raja Nandkumar, a resident of Brampton.

According to the police, they received reports of a shooting around 3:31 p.m. on Saturday in the parking lot of the Woodbine Shopping Centre, located near Rexdale Boulevard and Highway 27. Police arrived at the scene and transported the injured man to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Who was Chandan Kumar?

According to police, the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle. Police are treating the incident as a targeted attack. While the circumstances are not yet clear, it appears to have been a deliberate act. According to police, the deceased, Chandan Kumar, was an IT professional originally from Karnataka, India. He had been working in Canada for the past six years. This incident marks the third homicide in Toronto this year. According to CTV News, photos from the scene show a white SUV with bullet holes in the windshield and a shattered driver's side window.

What did the police say?

Inspector Errol Watson, quoted by CBC News, said, "I understand that a shooting like this, especially at a mall, can be concerning for public safety." He said officers are looking for any witnesses, video footage, and other evidence. Watson emphasized that the incident is currently being treated as targeted, and police are working to determine how many suspects were involved and how many shots were fired.
