Canada: The incidents of the murder of an Indian-origin industrialist and the firing at the residence of a Punjabi singer in Abbotsford, Canada, have created a sensation. The notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for both the attacks. These incidents took place just a day after the Rajasthan Police arrested key gang member Jagdeep Singh, alias Jagga, in the US. In a viral post on social media, gang member Goldie Dhillon revealed that the attacks were motivated by extortion disputes and enmity.
The incident took place on Monday, when 68-year-old industrialist Darshan Singh Sahari was shot at from a silver Toyota Corolla outside his house. Abbotsford police have called it a targeted killing. On the other hand, firing took place at the house of Punjabi singer Channi Nattan on Tuesday, but there was no casualty. Canadian authorities are investigating, and Indian-Canadian police are jointly investigating the role of the Bishnoi network.
Goldie Dhillon, in a post on Facebook, claimed that Sahashar was linked to a big drug trade. The gang asked him for recovery money, but he ignored the calls and blocked the number. Out of anger the gang committed murder. Dhillon warned, "Whoever plays tricks on us will meet the same fate." Sahashi was a resident of Rajgarh village in Punjab's Khanna district, and local journalists described him as a "gentleman."
Dhillon said that firing at Channi Nattan's house was not a personal grudge against Nattan. The reason is his close relationship with singer Sardar Khera. The post read, "Sat Shri Akal! We have no personal complaint against Channi Nattan. But any singer working or having contact with Sardar Kheda will be responsible for his own losses. We will continue to cause huge losses to Kheda." This is an open threat to the music industry.
Lawrence Bishnoi gang's reach extends from India to Canada, and Canada has declared it a terrorist organization. This gang has earlier been associated with incidents like Sidhu Moosewala murder case and the murder of Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi. These attacks show the panic of the gang after the arrest of Jagga. There is an atmosphere of fear in the Punjabi diaspora, especially in the music and business communities.
Canadian police have released CCTV footage of the vehicle used in the Daredevil murder. Agencies of India and Canada are checking the authenticity of the post. Experts believe this highlights the gang's overseas reach and calls for strict action. The Punjabi community has demanded increased security.
