The US Seeks India’s Support Against Dragon on Rare Earth Minerals: The US has recently expressed serious concern over the stringent export controls imposed by China on rare earth minerals and expects cooperation from India and Europe on this issue. Describing this as a challenging situation globally, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said that this step is a big threat to global supply chains and China's aim behind this is only to increase its economic and technological dominance. He termed it a “China versus the world” situation.
Besant said the US expects the support of its allies on this issue, especially from countries that have an interest in the resource and technological uses of rare earth metals. He also warned that if this strategy of China affects the global supply chain, then America and its partners will take strict measures.
China has recently tightened its export controls, which could affect supplies of rare metals needed for semiconductors and high-tech equipment. American officials believe that this step is an attempt to destabilize the global economy.
India has significant reserves of rare earth metals but lags behind China in processing capacity. Despite this, India has taken steps towards increasing the indigenous processing capacity of these metals under the “National Critical Mineral Mission.” This can open the way for cooperation between India and America.
Experts say that if America, India, and Europe together plan to reduce dependence on China's supply chain, it will diversify global supply chains and challenge China's technological and economic dominance. This step can not only bring changes in the trade and technology sector but can also affect the global political balance.
