Bogota: Colombian President Gustavo Petro has appealed to the global community to be vigilant after large scale US airstrikes rocked Caracas, the capital of Venezuela early on Saturday.

In a message shared on social media, President Petro wrote, "Caracas is being bombed right now. The whole world needs to know that Venezuela has been attacked. They are attacking with missiles. The OAS and the UN should meet immediately."

This warning triggered a wave of concern in the international community. Petro demanded immediate action from the United Nations and the Organization of American States (OAS) to address the situation in Venezuela and prevent further airstrikes. He explicitly stated that this attack poses a serious threat to Venezuela's sovereignty and the safety of its citizens.

Petro condemned the attack, calling it a serious threat to regional peace and stability. He stated that the situation is extremely worrying and that the international community must intervene immediately. Cuba, also a long-term rival of the United States, has slammed the military action against fellow communist country Venezuela as well.

"Cuba denounces and demands an urgent reaction from the international community against the criminal US attack on Venezuela," Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said in a post on social media.

What happened in Venezuela? 

The US conducted a large scale military attack o Venezuela during the early hours of Saturday with multiple explosion rocking the capital Caracas.

People gathered outside their homes in Caracas amidst loud explosions. The sudden blasts caused panic in the city and raised serious concerns about the safety of citizens. People sought refuge in safer places with their families. There was chaos in the surrounding areas.

The situation in Caracas became tense early Saturday morning, after several loud explosions. According to reports, people panicked and rushed out of their homes after hearing the blasts. Plumes of black smoke were seen rising into the sky, and military aircraft activity was observed. The power supply was disrupted near a large military base in the southern part of the city, plunging the area into darkness and chaos. "The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the country," Trump said in a statement on social media.
