Washington: US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran has agreed never to make nuclear weapons. The statement comes at a time when a preliminary agreement has been signed between Washington and Tehran after a long period of tension and conflict. However, a permanent agreement is still pending between the two countries and talks are ongoing on many important issues.
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said that Iran has admitted not possessing nuclear weapons. He also rejected the reports claiming that America was going to provide huge economic assistance to Iran.
According to Trump, the main objective of his government from the beginning has been to ensure that Iran cannot acquire nuclear weapons.

The initial agreement between the two countries is currently being considered as a framework. Its purpose is to end the conflict and prepare the basis for future negotiations. It is being said that the centre of talks is issues related to Iran's nuclear programme, uranium enrichment, relief in sanctions and regional security. However, the final terms have not been agreed upon yet.
US Vice President JD Vance has also called this agreement an important achievement. He says the administration's priority has always been to keep Iran away from nuclear weapons.
He also indicated that International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors could return to Iran to resume monitoring of nuclear activities there.
Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian has called this agreement a positive step, but has also made it clear that several rounds of negotiations are still left to reach lasting peace and a final agreement.
Iran says talks will continue and both sides will have to find common solutions on sensitive issues.
According to reports, giving some economic relief to Iran is also being considered in the proposed framework. In return, Iran will have to show transparency on many issues related to its nuclear programme.
Apart from this, topics like existing reserves of uranium, limit of future enrichment and international monitoring are also part of the talks.
At present this is only a preliminary agreement. Final agreement is yet to be reached between the two countries on many important issues. If the talks are successful, then in the coming time a comprehensive agreement can emerge regarding relaxation of sanctions, reduction in regional tension and the nuclear programme.
However, experts believe that it will not be easy to reach consensus on issues like nuclear enrichment, limitation of sanctions and security guarantees. Therefore, the coming few weeks are considered very important for this entire incident.
