Washington: The tension that has been going on for the last few days between US President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni now seems to be reducing. During the NATO summit held in Turkey, Trump publicly adopted a soft stance towards Meloni for the first time. He said that Meloni is a good person and there has been a good relationship between the two, although there was some sourness in the relationship due to differences on the issue of Iran.
When Trump was asked a question about Meloni in a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, he said that Italy did not support America in the matter related to Iran. According to Trump, this is why he was disappointed, but he still looks at Meloni with respect.

I think she is a nice person, actually.
Our relationship became a little bad because she refused to help us with Iran.
It soured my relationship with her a little bit, but I like her. pic.twitter.com/peNqD9maJO
The dispute between the two leaders started when Trump claimed that Meloni was eager to get photographed with him during the G7 summit in France. This statement was considered offensive in Italy and Meloni expressed strong displeasure over it. Her colleagues also openly criticised Trump's statement.
Before the press conference, Trump shared a photo on his social media platform Truth Social, in which Meloni was seen standing behind him. Along with the picture he wrote a caption like "Restraining Order Needed". There was a sharp reaction in Italy regarding this post and it was said to be an attempt to make fun of the Prime Minister.
After Trump's statements, Georgia Meloni said that she was surprised by such comments. She alleged that Trump does not hesitate to make personal comments even on the leaders of his allies. After this, many ministers of the Italian government also criticised Trump's statement.
Trump's changed attitude at the NATO conference is being considered an indication that efforts are being made to reduce the increasing tension between the two countries. Although differences still remain on Iran and other international issues, Trump's recent statement has indicated that he does not want to escalate the dispute.
