Trump Suggests Long Haul in Iran Conflict, Says Damage Must End Threat for Good (Image Courtesy: The White House)
Washington: US President Donald Trump has clearly indicated that military action against Iran is not going to end yet. He said that the attacks so far have caused damage, but it is necessary to make it so permanent that no American president has to face such a situation in the future.
Speaking at the White House, Trump said America's objective is clear – to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons at all costs. He launched a scathing attack on Iran, saying, “We do not want such people to have control over nuclear weapons.” His reference was clearly towards the Iranian leadership.
.@POTUS on Iran: As somebody said, we could leave today, and it would take 10 years to rebuild the damage that's been done, but I think we have to make it a little bit more permanent so no other president has to go through this. According to Trump, the action so far has been effective. He claimed that the attacks by American and allied countries have significantly weakened Iran's military capabilities. He said that the results that have emerged are much more than expected.
Trump also claimed that if the US had not acted first, Iran would have acquired nuclear capability much sooner. According to him, “they were only two weeks away,” and if that had been the case, the situation could have been more dangerous.

Although Trump definitely said that America can soon come out of this situation, he did not give any clear deadline. His statement also appeared a bit contradictory—on the one hand he said it was too early to go, while on the other hand he also described it as “a matter of a few weeks.”
The impact of this conflict was not limited to the Middle East only. Trump criticized NATO countries, saying that they did not cooperate in the security of the Strait of Hormuz, which is a very important route for global oil supplies. At the same time, due to this war, his proposed meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping has also been postponed.
Trump rejected the possibility of a long war on the ground and said that he is not afraid of any major conflict. He made it clear that this is a limited military action and America will continue to take necessary steps to protect its interests.
