Washington: Donald Trump will become the 47th President of the United States when he takes his oath on Monday, January 20, in Washington, DC. His promises, some of which he states will be delivered on his first day in office, have been given global attention. Some of them will take more time and the support of the Congress, but others can be done through direct executive orders immediately.

Immigration overhaul and border control

He promised to start the largest deportation campaign in U.S. history and will remove all individuals residing in the country illegally. He further stated that he intends to seal off the border, thereby eradicating illegal immigration, a significant theme in his campaign.

Scuttling birthright citizenship

The new president has promised to abolish automatic citizenship for people born in the U.S., which is also referred to as birthright citizenship. This policy has been widely debated for long because it gives citizenship to children of undocumented immigrants who are born on American soil.

January 6 pardons

Probably one of the most contentious promises of Trump is the pardoning of people who have been convicted or even charged in connection with the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots. He has announced that he would do so by executive order, a move sure to create massive political debate.

Trade and tariff policies

Trump will reinstate and raise tariffs on all trade. He plans to raise all imports from Mexico and Canada by 25%, while anything coming from China will pay an additional 10% tariff. This is achievable using executive orders.

Energy policies and national emergency declaration

He's a staunch supporter of energy independence and would declare a national energy emergency, thus fast-tracking approval of drilling projects, pipelines, refineries, and power plants for increased domestic energy production. Targeting the 'Deep State'

One of the most ambitious objectives of Trump is to dismantle the so-called "deep state." He plans to reinstate his 2020 Schedule F order, which redesignates thousands of civil service jobs as political appointments, making these individuals subject to at-will termination.
